The Minister of Health Honorable Khumbize Chiponda M.P. has said that the symbiotic relationship between Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) and the government in fostering development is crucial.
The Minister said this during an event where Good Neighbors International presented a donation of medicines valued at US$964,275.20 (MK1.6 billion) to the Ministry of Health at Kasungu District Council.
“This function today illustrates the purpose and benefits of the co-existence of Non-Governmental Organisations and government. While many believe that development is a responsibility of government, the reality is that the NGOs are very instrumental in development,” she said.
The Minister thanked Good Neighbors for making the donation which included medicines such as Amoxicillin, Albendazole, Metronidazole and Cotrimoxazole among others and assured Good Neighbors that the medication will be used for its intended purpose.
“I hereby would like to assure Good neighbors that all donated medicines that we have received today will be put to the intended use in the fight against diseases and other medical interventions,” she said.
In her remarks, Country Director for Good neighbors International said the organization was honored to handover the medicine to the government. She said the event was not crucial just for the transfer resources, but signifies collective dedication to enhancing the health and well-being of communities.
“These medicines are more than just pharmaceuticals, they symbolize hope, life, and a promise of a healthier future, reaching hospitals, clinics, and communities nationwide to support our healthcare workers and those in need.
The medicines are specifically designated for the benefit of Kasungu District Hospital and other healthcare facilities within the district.
